Day 4 - Rostock - Gedser - Kopenhagen [En]

There is also still a quite big difference between Poland and Germany. One might say German people are sometimes a bit over regulating which they call "Punktlichkeit", but their rail network is really impeccable especially compared to the middle aged trains in Poland :)
Finally after 10 long hours of beautiful Polish and German landscapes I arrived in the city of Rostock. My Couchsurf-host, Steffi, was already awaiting me at the platform. After dropping of my stuff at her place and freshing up a bit we went out and she showed me around in the lovely city center. First impression I got from Rostock that it is a relatively open and very neat city. In general the city can be a bit compared to some of our smaller coastal cities like we have in Belgium.
It was nice to recall some nice memories from Finland, since Steffi is totally fond of this country. Also it was a nice opportunity to put my German knowledge to the test since I tried to speak German to her all the time. I must say I am really glad I studied in Dresden, since this has been a major help in practicing this language. Night was slowly falling and I'm noticing my days are getting longer. It wasn't before 11 PM the darkness came.
Once again a short night was interrupted with alarm call against 6:30 and we she escorted me to the harbour to get on the Ferry to Gedser. Next legendary moment ... setting foot in Denmark, 18th country visited since June 2008 in my tour through our European Union and beyond.

I got on the train to Gedser not really expecting anything special, but once I got on I was absolutely amazed. I first had to double check if I didn't accidently go in the first class. Extremely comfortable seats adjustable in height, very spacious, every seating place is equipped with electricity, there is even wireless LAN available on the train. Truly an endless difference with yesterday. Next stop Copenhagen, where I have a date with the mermaid and Mikkel. I met Mikkel on the GTG in Istanbul earlier this year and tonight I will be staying at his place. He was born in Denmark, but he lived for 18 years in Brussels since his parents work for the European Union and now he moved back to Denmark for studying, also Chemical Engineering.
